Linked Address

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone would be able to give me any advice or has faced a similar situation. I applied to rent a house this month. However when they got back to me I'd failed the credit checks. They said I had a CCJ on my file. This took me by surprise as I was completely unaware of this. So I checked Experian nothing on my credit file to indicate this. However when I checked Equifax I had a linked address. This address was one I moved out of on 1999 when I was 6 years old. There's a man who lived there or still lives there who has received a CCJ and has defaulted on several loans. He is badly affecting my credit score. I have rang Equifax to inform them of this and they have filed that I want this linked address removed. But this could take weeks if it's approved at all. In the meantime I have been rejected for the property I was wanting to rent. Thanks for reading this very long winded problem

This sounds bizarre - CCJs are at the person level not the address level and so should not be associated with you just by a common address.

The LL should be able to make further investigations to verify that the CCJ is nothing to do with you. Is there a Letting Agent?

Someone else's defaults / CCJs CANNOT affect you in this way (neither on your history or the fictitious score), a CCJ is filed against the person, not the address. Are you sure there isn't something funny going on e.g. ID theft etc?

I'm going to contact the letting agency now as when I click on my credit file it's very apparent that the CCJ and debts are not in my name. The debts are in a male name and I'm female. I am slightly concerned that this could be fraud though.

If the name is not at all like your own name, then it is likely a misallocation by the CRA. They should correct that quickly.

No it's a completely different name. I've rang up the credit agency and they are looking into it. I've also rang the citizens advice and they've suggested I write to them too. Hopefully it's easy to sort out cos this person is clearly not me.
