Using the Garmin tracker, MyFitnessPAL plus the Renpho scales I have managed to hit my goal weight (BMI 21.8) (yesterday) and get every parameter into the green on the RENPHO measurements green with the exception of subcutaneous fat (whatever that is)...  I guess it must be the clever word for the remaining "pinch an inch" around the belly.
That post was 4th March, so goal weight achieved 3rd March.
Today is 3rd June and I remain within + - 1kg of goal weight all through that time :)
Still can't get rid of that "subcutaneous fat" though...

Exactly 24 minutes for 5k running.
Sub-24 minutes for 5k rowing machine.
  • FitTrack scales are amazing shows you all the statistics you need to know and it is tracked through using an app on your phone. These Bluetooth scales send your stats straight from your scales to your phone and then tracks your progress every time you stand on it and shows how much you've lost or gained in that time period. This is only £49.00 and I highly recommend this device.

Yippee - another month and weight sustained at target range.
5k running a little bit faster
Not so fast rowing this week.

Sub-cutaneous fat still stubborn as ever.

Another month on, and I've had some improvements in 5k speed, rowing and resistance.

Then the past week everything is not quite happening performance wise.  I've also dropped below target weight and simply find I physically cannot eat enough to avoid calorie deficit day-on-day.

Another month and I have not had the opportunity to do much running or rowing.  My weight peaked up a week or so ago but I'm pleased to have got back within the target band now.  Next goal to start the 5k runs again and make further improvement on time.

Mine has pads that measure electrical pulses through the body somehow so, as well as weight, they measure parameters such as body water %, body water %, bone mass - 12 things all together.  The that syncs to the phone and presents a graph of changes over time.

I also have the data go to My Fitness Pal, which tells me each day how much I can eat and, as food consumed is entered throughout the day, how much more I can eat.

I'd quite understand if someone thought that was all a lot of fuss.  I have found the system works well to keep my weight spot on and fitness levels increasing.  It is also motivating to do more exercise across the trio of Renpho, Garmin and My Fitness Pal.

Another month on and I've maintained my weight within my target +-1kg band.

No rowing this month, but I've reduced my 5k time by over 45 seconds in the month.  A big focus on breathing technique has helped.

It is actually getting very hard to repeat and better the time over this distance, so someone suggested this month that I do very fast 800m or 1k as the objective for the coming month and then the 5k pace will seem more relaxed.  I have no idea whether that will work or not, but it is different and got to be worth a try.

Doing two resistance sessions per week but limited progress towards "beach body ready".

So, improving the 5k running by simply "progressive overload" is coming unstuck.

I have managed to reach 5k in 21 mins 25 secs through effort over the past year - actually almost exactly a year as MyFitnessPal says 360 days since I logged my first entry and started this journey.  It will be a year next Tuesday, 14th.

To shake things up this month, I have two suggestions that I can see could both work to move me to the target of 20 minute 5k (15 kph pace):
    • Short fast run - 800 m in 2.5 mins or 1 k in 3 mins.  I have so far done 500 m at that required pace
    • Longer slower run - 12 k in 1 hour
Does anyone have any experience of either of these approaches?  Is one better than the other?  Or do I just try to achieve both and then hit the 5k objective?

Another month and I have done hardly any cardio as I hurt my knee which stopped any running and even the rowing machine and spinning classes were causing it to ache.  The result is an uptick in weight by just under 2 kg.

I have managed to maintain resistance training though, so hopefully once my knee is suitably rested I'll be able to get back to where I left off relatively quickly.
