I bought a TV from Tesco just under 4 years ago. unfortunately the screen has developed coloured areas. Am I within my rights do demand a replacement or a refund. it was not a cheap television and a brand that I would have expected better from.

No, its 4 years old and presumably only had a 1 or 2 year gtee. even if they did offer to replace they could deduct 4 years worth of use so wouldnt leave much to play with.
how much was the TV
if you are looking for a new Tv richer sounds offer a 6 year gtee and JL offer a 5 year gtee0 -
Dose it not come under the Consumer Rights Act 2015? as I would have expected it to last a lot longer than 4 years.0

I think you misunderstand the Act. It doesn't automatically entitle you to a replacement or refund after 4 years. There are a few hoops to jump through first, and any action will be tempered by the four years' use you've already had. The two posters above are correct.0

As per @neilmcl ... also, what was the make/model of the TV? (A big name brand, together with a higher cost, will be expected to last a lot longer than a no-name el-cheapo TV).0

It was a £600 Sony.

What size / model / price of TV?
Not that will be particularly relevant as many times mass-produced consumer items are really treated as disposable and only 2 - 3 year life expectancy before obsolete.
That is not a practice I subscribe to, but it is not an uncommon one.0 -
I was looking up the average life expectancy of a LCD tv and I understand it should be around 16 years.

I do Believe obsolete depends on the item and its use. This tv was a 49in Android TV which still has many years of life in it as it is updatable.
