Solicitor still not received draft contract after nearly 6 weeks

  • Our solicitor didn't receive it from our vendors solicitor. Found out it was due to an IT issue with how they receive certain emails so it has to be posted. Took about 5 weeks in total. Annoying as I assumed it was received and left it three weeks to follow up about it and just received a 'have not received'. If I had known it hadn't been received it could have been dealt with much earlier as I knew it had been emailed.

We have been waiting five weeks, my vendor is using Purplebricks’s solicitors and with no estate agent chasing either it’s just taking an age. I am in contact with the vendor and love the house so just waiting! I am hoping it won’t be much longer as we can’t request the searches without it!
Yes I really love this house and so don’t mind waiting but also would like to know what’s going on at that end so I think I’ll definitely email the EA tomorrow.

Yes, my solicitor said he can’t start the searches until he has it. Very frustrating as I’ve done all I can.

We've literally waited 3 whole months for the draft contract but got a request to pay for searches today so hopefully things will finally start moving along. I would follow it up just incase there is something holding it up unnecessarily.
Wow that’s a long time! Do you know what the hold up was? I hope you make some good progress now xx

No point in spending money until the vendors are in a position to proceed.

I agree it’s definitely worth chasing. I check in with the vendor 1-2 times a week to see what’s happening. Your estate agent will hopefully know what’s going on, I am missing having a real
    estate agent on this purchase.

We were waiting 6 weeks, we received the draft contract today. The vendor's took over 4 weeks just to return the paperwork. We had our solicitor chase it up as well as calling the EA. It worked in the end. Good luck!

Apparently an email sent to the seller's solicitors over a month ago was missed....unbelievable! I am glad that things are starting to progress now. All the best with yours too xx
  • Thanks for all the advice, I'm going to contact the EA today and see if they can find out whats going on. x

Are they perhaps asking you to pay more, as their purchase was more expensive than they hoped? Anyway, I hope you took @Thrugelmir's advice not to spend money on a survey until this was sorted.

I've done lots of property transactions, and whenever there's a delay it's always blamed on somebody or other, and that's never the real reason. If there's a delay, it's because somebody wants there to be a delay.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
