Three Changing Contract Length

I recently upgraded my 3 contract from SIM only to an actual phone.  I thought I'd got a good deal as the website stated 12 month contract and I got an email confirming the duration (three times).
A week later a letter from three turns up now stating the contract length is 24 months!
I've complained, but all they're offering is to refund the up-front cost of the phone. Nothing else. No compensation for the error, or the costs I've incurred for getting a phone case & screen protector.  I know they're not obliged to compensate, but given the contract length was their error and I've been with 3 for 12 years I would have thought some compensation to say sorry would have been offered.
I'm stunned and I was wondering if this had happened to anyone else.

    Can't tell you the legalalities, ut did you buy online - could use the cooling off period maybe?

  • I did buy online and I'm not concerned about getting out of the contract. Three have made the error and won't honour what's stated in the order confirmation. I'm just stunned at the practice of offering a 12 month contract and then automatically changing it to a 24 month contract and then leave me out of pocket for their error.
  • Complain and insist that they put your on the agreed minimum term i.e. 12 months.

    How have you been left out of pocket? Were you not going to bother with having a mobile phone in months 13-24?

    I've been left out of pocket because I've bought a screen protector and case for a phone I now have to send back to Three.

  • Take the screen protector and case back and get a refund, no?
