TopSuperSaver said:I initiated a switch via CEC from Eon to Shell last week, on the 10th. MSE email said a £25 bill credit would be applied with this tariff. In this weeks email it has gone up to £35 and ends on Friday.
I'm wondering if I cancel the switch today with Shell, would I be able to choose to switch again with CEC before the Friday deadline? Or would it take a few days for my CEC account to recognise the cancellation?0 -

I still have 7 days left of the cooling off period from today, so my next port of call is seeing if there are any better tariffs coming on stream next week and also looking into splitting my gas and elec suppliers, as I only looked into dual fuel switches when doing comparisons. After reading this thread I realised I could get it slightly cheaper by separating the suppliers and doing gas only + elec only.

Response today from Shell about the MSE Energy Club January 2022v4 tariff:
Yes, one of the features of this tariff is installing a smart meter, so I'm afraid if you don't want a smart meter installed than you would need to choose a different tariff.

"Just to let you know that you do not need to have a smart meter installed for this tariff if you don't want to - you can simply just let Shell Energy know that you'd prefer to not have one."
I certainly wouldn't reapply for the switch based on this comment as Shell Energy have clearly put a reference to smart meters in the terms and conditions for a reason. It didn't need to be written in there otherwise, hidden away right at the very bottom as well! Pretty poor service/information from MSE Energy Club.

I also contacted Shell Energy about whether a smart meter is mandatory - I was told no. I might be offered one, but I am not obligated to have one installed.
I noticed that the tariff description has been updated: "You get £150 dual-fuel bill credit (£75 for elec-only) from Shell – applied to your account in January 2021 and January 2022, provided you remain update to date with your monthly payments. As it’s a two-year deal, we’ve included £75 bill credit (£37.50 for elec-only) to your annual savings above, plus the usual MSE cashback (spread over two years)."
Whereas it also says: "This includes the usual £25 Cheap Energy Club cashback and £35 dual-fuel bill credit from Shell (if you're elec-only, it's £12.50 cashback and £17.50 bill credit)."
According to Switch With Which, my estimated annual cost comes to £624.53. Whereas with the CEC, it comes to £590 - so a difference of about £35, which I'm assuming is the dual-fuel bill credit from Shell Energy cashback mentioned in one of the paragraphs. The £75 cashback hasn't been added to my annual savings, as the difference between the CEC's and Switch With Which's figures is £35, not the £75 cashback mentioned. The information regarding cashback seems conflicting. I agree with @tsb - poor information from the CEC.

I've just contacted Shell Energy regarding smart meters. I quote:"None of our tariffs require a smart meter to be installed, and remember this call is being recorded".I don't know whether this will help anyone or not, but it made up my mind. Stay safe.0

Had an email from the CEC earlier in relation to the cashback query I raised. Needless to say, I cancelled the switch straight away and re-applied to the separate providers I initially went with. Here's the reply from the CEC:
"We've a quick update about your application to switch to the Big Switch Shell Energy Jan 22 v4 tariff via Cheap Energy Club last week.
While the price quoted, your potential saving and the position the Shell tariff appeared in your results were all correct, you may have seen an incorrect amount of bill credit in the details we gave about the tariff. Due to a technical error on our Cheap Energy Club website, we said the bill credit was £150 for dual-fuel switchers, not the £35 we'd arranged.
The info was correct in our weekly email and Cheap Energy Club emails, but we're sorry for this conflicting information on the site. There's nothing you need to do and please be assured that the annual cost and savings figure you were shown were right. You've still got a cheap deal on your energy, with the rate locked in for 14 months, and will get the £35 bill credit plus the usual £25 MSE cashback as normal."

I switch supplier from Eon to British gas. What a nightmare. Never again, once I have got rid of BG.
They can't read the smart meter and have still got M2 and KWH mixed up. Phone call to BG keeps on cutting out. No, it isn't that simple!!
