Indeed, I have very little sympathy, the other half has to teach 30 snot nosed 11 year olds every day, absolutely no moaning, just gets on with it.Marcon said:
What a fuss about nothing. Just get on with, as many millions are doing without this level of quibbling.duk3nuk3m said:I currently have a disagreement with my boss at work. The company I work for is classed as "essential" where some of my colleagues are able to work from home and some are not due to their job roles. During the lockdown earlier this year, I proved that I was able to work from home effectively. Since the 2nd lockdown was announced, my boss is now insisting that I come into the office on a certain number of days and work from home on the other days. Is there anything I can do, as I feel as though my boss is completely disregarding the current guidelines?3 -

I wonder what derogatory terms they use about your other half!

Aw maybe if you lightened up a bit and did a funny Tik Tok dance someone would clap for youbradders1983 said:
Or how about a clap for nobody, given how everyone is pig sick of all this now? Luckily that is exactly what is happening anyway.ToxicWomble said:100% agree about Supermarket workers, plenty of others as well that quietly carried on working without getting any recognition.
Should be a “Clap for ALL workers” imo
There is a good reason why the sheep arent on their doorsteps clapping like seals this time around, and its got nothing to do with the weather.

not what your employer thinks though is it? and they are the ones paying your wages.duk3nuk3m said:
Please show me where I have come across as self-entitled and mentioned being furloughed. I have not been furloughed at all this year and I have worked from home with no negative effects to my work performance. I have just clearly stated that my job role is one that can be effectively carried out at home.AskAsk said:
people in this country seem to a sense of self entitlement. they will be asking for furlough to be extended beyond the covid crisis next so they can sit at home and earn 80% pay without having to get up early and go to work.
where do people think all this money is coming from that is paying for all this? if you have a job and you are asked to go to the office or the factory to do your job, then do so. unless you can prove that the condition there is not safe, there is no grounds for refusal.0 -
because it is not critical and they realise that some businesses can not operate fully from home, that there are other ways to mitigate the spread of the disease and not just work. how many people would still quite happily go out and socialise even though they are furloughed or work from home?duk3nuk3m said:
I understand that it is a "guideline" but what is the point in the government issuing a new guideline if it doesn't have to be followed?bradders1983 said:
Key word there being "guideline". There is nothing legally stopping a) you going into work, or b) your boss insisting you go into work.duk3nuk3m said:
Oh you're one of those. I absolutely am grateful that I have a job, but I also have a responsibility to follow the guidelines wherever I can.Go in the office and be grateful you have a job.0 -
Could always resign, it's the generally accepted and pretty much the given pathway for people who don't want to do what the bosses want them to do. This pathway generally holds firm even when bosses are wrong.2

OP, I think the only thing that you can do is ask you boss to clarify why they want you in the office. You say that you have proved that you can work effectively from home but it may be that your boss has a different perception.
Obviously we don't know what your job is or what it entails, but it may be that while you can do your job from home, you can only do it from home if someone else is in the office facilitating that, so that there is a knock on effect that the office as a whole works far less efficiently with you or others working from home. Or it could be that there need to be a certain number of people in, and that there are reasons why it makes sense for you to be in part of the time to ensure that the total coverage is there.
All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)2 -
Maybe your boss doesn't agree that you were performing your role to his expectation.1

true. the OP may think they are doing fine when they are working from home, but the boss doesn't think so and doesn't want to be so blatant and say that the OP is not performing when they are working from home and so he wants to make sure that they come into the office so he can keep an eye on them.FBaby said:Maybe your boss doesn't agree that you were performing your role to his expectation.
i keep hearing that productivity is improved when people work from home in the media, but from my experience, people are less productive when they work from home as there are distractions at home. whenever i call someone now and they are working from home, they are often not there to answer the phone or when they do, the call signal is very poor and i can't have a proper conversation with them.
from my experience, the sooner everyone can go back to normal and return to the office the better off we will all be.2
