Car parked outside my house

I live on a public road and I have a strange car parked outside my house on the pavement.  I understand that on a public road any car can park there but this car has been in an accident and the front of it is completely smashed up.  I have asked my neighbours and nobody knows who the car belongs to and it hasn't moved now in 12 weeks.  The car is legally taxed.

Is there anything I can do about this?  its not a major problem but its a bit of an eye sore having a smashed up car around 1 metre from my front door!  Is it just a case of waiting until either the owner removes the car or the tax expires in March 2021 and then I ask the council to remove it.

I am not really sure why the owner has just dumped it but the car is around 14 years old so maybe they've just decided to dump it there (or its been stolen).

  • Worth reporting to police on the 101 non-emergency just in case it is an outstanding stolen car.

  • Is it legal to park on the pavement there?

Report to the Council as an abandoned vehicle, as if damaged, it will not be classed as roadworthy, even if it is taxed.

Most places, yes. But it's illegal drive on the pavement so it gets there is a mystery!
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Roll it into the middle of the road
  • Its illegal to have an unroadworthy car on the road, the police wouldnt do anything if it was just a couple of days, but it need moving, ASAP

^This is the correct thing to do. There should be a link on your local council/county council's website.

Good idea.  This might be a car that the police are looking for in connection with an hit and run accident or another crime.  Also, if it has been stolen then the owner and their insurance company might be interested in finding it.  Do insurance companies offer a reward for finding things now, or is that just something that happens in old films?
