Unlimited data abroad

I'm trying to find a new deal for my husband, who works in Norway roughly 8 months of the year.
I'm seeing lots of deals offering unlimited data abroad, but it's actual subject to a fair usage policy of 20MB per month.
Does anyone know of any companies which genuinely offer unlimited data with no cap? He is currently with Three, they have a cap. As do O2 and vodafone.
Thank you
:)

The 'Roam like at Home' regulations that cover roaming within Europe allow the fair usage policy that you mention. It's the same with networks in other European countries, they don't give the full data allowance that they give domestically when you are roaming.

You may find a UK provider without such restrictions, sorry that I don't personally know of any.

Why doesn't your husband subscribe to a Norwegian mobile network for unlimited data, is the cost particularly high..?

I would have thought so. We’re quite spoilt in the UK with regards to cheap mobile allowances compared to the rest of the world.

All I will say is that a “Fair Use” policy is just that. They can decide whether or not to enforce it. Just the same as when text messages became unlimited about 15 years ago. There used to be a “Fair Use” policy of 3000 a month but I regularly saw customers using 5,6 even 7 thousand a month without issue.

A Fair Use Policy just gives them the right to enforce the rules should they wish. I know when I left my job at EE last year they didn’t enforce the Fair Use for roaming. Dunno if they do now though....
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

He may be better off getting a plan on a Norwegian network if he needs it for that much of the year. Not likely to be cheap though.

Local sim would be the best bet at this point. No one knows what will happen to roaming plans once we hit 1st Jan next year...

Hopefully it continues as currently as detailed, but the government is relying on operators doing the right thing, there is no legislation except for a maximum spend. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/using-your-mobile-in-eu-and-eea-countries-after-the-uk-leaves-the-eu#from-1-january-2021-onwards

It would depend on how the overseas network felt about it. Before the EU regs came in a lot of them used roaming like a cash cow. If you can remember a few years back, in some areas you'd be changed 50p+ a minute to make a call and the data costs were huge!
Worse case, each UK network would have to go back to arrange a deal with every EU network.

Also, the page quoted states: 'The government has also legislated to continue to ensure that consumers receive alerts when they are at 80% and 100% data usage.'  The UK govenmant has absolutely no control over any network not in the UK.
If an EU network doesn't send the roaming info fast enough, there is no way anyone will get alerts at any % level.

Thank you for the replies. I used to get notifications for new replies but I didn't get any and thought I would just check.
I did suggest a Norwegian SIM but he wanted to just stick to his own. We did did hope we would find a provider who didn't have a limit, but if this isn't possible we will rethink it.
I'm about to read JJ_Egan's suggestion
