Will I be penalised for moving house?

I've been with Virgin Media for my home landline, broadband and TV for about 15 years. I am in a contract with them at present which has over a year to go. I'm moving house in a few weeks and when I checked online recently on Virgin's website for their services in the area I will be moving to it said they are not currently in the area. Am I going to have to pay for breaking my contract if I have to find a new provider when I move?

  • You won't be penalised, but you will need to settle up the contract or pay the appropriate termination fees, as would anyone else looking to end the contract.

Thanks, I worry this will result in being quite expensive. If Virgin provided their services in the area I'm moving to I would continue to use them. I guess I'll have to call them and clarify what the payment will be :(
  • Your contract is to supply you at your current address for the period agreed.  You are breaking the contract by leaving VM unable to supply you, so are liable for early termination charges.

This is why getting a "deal" is not always a good idea.  You could have let the previous contract roll over onto 30 day notice at the normal retail price and you would have avoided charges for breaking the contract early.

Depends on contract start date, but probably 4 month's subs.
