Can I save money by only buying the BASIC Netflix package (480?), or will the picture quality be poor on a HD/4K TV (55") or do I at least need Standard package (HD)?  Not obsessed on 4K resolution, but don't want to pay more than necessary provided display resolution is good enough.

Picture quality is not poor. Will be fine.
  • However... its a shame to have a 4k TV and no content to watch in 4k. The above posts say it will be fine but it wont be as enjoyable as a crisp 4k or HD picture.

The picture will look poor due to bing SD.  HD will look a lot better if you don't want to pay for full 4K.  It will work however.

OP, you pay only £4/m or so (TL 41.99/m) for the top Netflix package if signing up via Netflix Turkey using a VPN. Once you've signed up, you login as per normal to Netflix UK but you are billed in TL rather than GBP.

Nope, you only need to use the VPN once.
    1) Take out a free trial with any VPN service offering a Turkish IP address (server)  - Google is your friend!
    2) Sign up to Netflix Turkey using the VPN. Use a UK credit card such as Halifax Clarity card (no forex fees) to maximize your savings.
    3) Cancel VPN service
    4) Login to Netflix UK using your login details you created in step 2)

Thanks for your comment - I don't pay anything to Netflix currently (plenty of other stuff to do or watch without subscriptions) so paying anything to them is a lot more than zero! (Only considering due to teenage pester power, and school teachers recommending watching certain Netflix content for educational purposes (allegedly).
