Iphone Screen Replacement Help!

I have a iPhone which I bought privately about 18 months ago. I have no insurance on it and the screen is badly cracked from having dropped it a couple of times.
I'm thinking of sending it off to Apple store to get repaired but I'm not sure how much that will cost.
Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the screen repaired without forking out an absolute fortune?

Might you have insurance cover through a bank account or home contents?1

I’d personally send it to Apple - we got my daughters fixed at the local post office - she dropped it again and it practically shattered into pieces. Cheap replacement screens are not the same as the ones Apple provide.2
