Just ordered Sky Ultrafast-no help from Sky at all

Other than accepting my online order I have had no dialogue with Sky over our new order for Ultrafast.
I have discovered independently that this will be a VOIP system which will make one of our extension phones redundant.
I have also just now discovered that the new router needs to be plugged into the new G Fast socket which will be installed this week. Problem is that all our computers that really need fast internet are upstairs and the socket will presumably be installed where the old master socket was i.e. downstairs.
Of course, we could use wifi for the computers but this will drastically slow down speeds (I have already checked).
Any chance the BT Openreach engineer would be kind enough to install the socket where we request?

You can ask, or you can connect the computers up either with network cable or homeplug.
Note that if you do either of these, make sure you a) get the right CAT speed cable (CAT5e or higher, preferably CAT6), and/or b) Homeplugs that are fast enough.  I mention CAT6 because I presume your internet is going to be faster than a 100Mbps connection, so if you get the slower homeplug and/or cable, you'd potentially be capping yourself at an internal speed of 100Mbps and not realising the full potential of your Ultrafast.

OP, are you getting G.fast or FTTP from Sky? If the latter then you'll getting a new ONT (not a g.fast socket) which you plug your router into. Openreach will more or less install the ONT anywhere in the home, so ask them to install it next to your current router if thats the best place for it.

Gfast uses same filtered master socket as normal ADSL and Superfast FTTC/VDSL broadband.  Guess Openreach are just replacing your current master socket with the new version, NTE5C with mk4 filtered face plate.

If you are getting Gfast, then openreach can move the master socket, or lay a new twisted pair broadband extension cable from master stock to another room, but you will have to pay for it.    I recall to move the master socket costs £160 last time I checked a few months ago - cost may be lower if engineer is on site, but don't quote me.
