What colour paint if you're thinking of moving

  • Cheap and cheerful - big bucket of magnolia for walls and smaller bucket for ceilings. Why spend  more ( and mixed to order can be really expensive once you go for feature walls and borders etc... ) when you are moving anyway ? Whatever you paint it, new owner will more than likely paint over again. Keep it clean, simple and cheap, save you money for actual moving ,not on the house you are about to get out of.
  • white color is the most popular one which makes the space looks a bit spacious and soothing to eyes.

Yeah, especially if you’ve painted everything magnolia 🤢
I’ve not bought houses in the past that have been painted magnolia throughout as it’s just too big a job for me to repaint the whole house as soon as I moved in - I just cannot bear magnolia, I think it’s disgusting, particularly in north facing rooms and it actually makes me feel quite queasy.
I’d rather live with someone else’s non-magnolia colour scheme for a while and repaint gradually in my own time.
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

When we moved into our flat I repainted bedrooms, living rooms and kitchen in pure brilliant white matte (Dulux Trade).

None of it looks super white, it was cheap, goes with all the furniture and its been easy to touch up as needed.

What makes a difference is lighting, have you got warm toned light bulbs, or cooler toned light bulbs - the former makes the white inviting and cosy, the latter a bit "operating theatre".

When we moved into our last house it had just all been painted magnolia. We left it like that for the 12 years that we lived there!!

When we moved last year into a new build it was all painted white. We lived with that for 12 months but were glad to get some colour on the walls over the course of this year. It is much more homely now for a bit of colour, even though we have gone for pale muted tones.

We much prefer the bright white light to the warm white light.

We painted my mother's house top to toe in b&q brilliant white, then took the edge off with coloured throws, cushions etc. It made it look clean and bright and not too personal. Sold in a few days for more than we expected.

We painted this house in Dulux Barley White throughout when we bought it and were putting it up for rental. It's similar to magnolia. Since moving in we've gone for Polished Pebble in the lounge and Rock Salt which is a very light grey, almost white, in the lobby/loo.  I'm now beginning to feel that it's more our home than a rental.

ETA, I certainly wouldn't be wasting lots of money on tester pots or mixing colours to order when you're moving out.  Find something that doesn't clash with the colours on your floors and go with that.
