Can Virgin upgrade my package without me knowing?

Last year, I telephoned Virgin about down-sizing my package and having only phone and broadband, as we have a Freeview arial. This was agreed, although Virgin did not confirm the new, cheaper package by email, and I assumed everything was OK. I then discovered that they were charging me £12 a month more than had been agreed. I was alerted to this, when they sent me letter telling me that the cost was to be increased by a further £17 a month. I now find that in November last year, I 'bought' Big Bundle package with TiVO 6 box, Player T.V. (M) (never heard of it), TiVo credit and M100 fibre broadband. This is a fiction. I have never, ever discussed any of this with Virgin, at any time. They certainly can't have a record of this 'purchase'. I am calling them today. Any advice on how I stand is very welcome.

I suppose the elephant in the room is: Why has it taken until now for you to notice?

I'm not sure what you expect - have you been paying an extra £12 a month for the best part of a year (or even longer) and not known about it. That seems to be ever such a long time to not have checked you bank account and wondered what you are paying for.
I don't use Virgin but with Sky or BT you can get on line and check your account to see what packages you are on and how much you are paying for them. Dont you bother to do that either.
TBH if you've been paying for a service but not actually using it then it's really down you to have noticed and done something about it.
