Master tru has lost his phone  so I rang Orange and they've put a block on outgoing calls. They can't block it completely because I'm not the account holder, mr tru is and he's in Belgium til late tomorrow night.

Miss tru's friend says he's heard that you can unblock it if you know what you're doing, that's not right is it? I asked him if he meant unlock but he said no, it's definitely unblock

i assuming they have just barred outgoing calls on the sim.

by the sounds of it orange want to confirm that the phone is lost with mr tru before they bar the phone (making it useless in the UK).

unblocking/unbarring a stolen/lost phone is illegal, but there are ways to do it

    Thanks

    Yes, they've barred outgoing calls.

If someone was to unblock it and run up a huge bill - not likely because the minutes updated yesterday so there's at least 500 mins - would we be responsible for the bill?

afaik only the networks can legally unblock phones.

i'm pretty sure that you cant unblock the sim yourself. you can unblock the phone (eg changing the serial no. of the phone), but that is illegal in the UK

  • The network have barred the sim for outgoing calls.

No way for the thief to use the sim.

They will not block the phone until they speak to the account holder.

Unblocking is simple with the correct equipment dependent on the phone but totally illegal in the Uk.
  • unblocking the sim? not a chance

unblocking the handset? well its not going to be worth the risk tbh, changing an imei and then knowingly selling the handset on in this country is really seriously illegal so is rare (thankfully), bearing in mind risk and values of handsets on the second hand market- theres no reason for them to chance it
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)
