In desperate need of a new laptop, budget around £500. I saw an HP one in Argos for £499 but it's out of stock. that had cpu benchmark of 7995.
I am the person who only buys a laptop every 10 years, so needs to last. Was told to look for quad core, 8MB RAM and decent processor.
I've just seen this HP one at currys that benchmarks at 11271, that seems almost too good to be true!
If the answer is that Intel is better than Ryzen, I've also seen this Lenova one at costco benckmark at 7982 but it is £569 so a bit over budget.
Really grateful for any advice.

The one at Currys has decent reviews but it isn't all down to benchmarks. Check user reviews for comments on screen quality and brightness, how good the keyboard is, can the graphics cope with photo editing.0

As for my current machine, the fan no longer works, it overheats and switches off. I have only outlook, chrome and excel open and each one often says "not responding" and freezes. Often the mouse disappears from the screen and I have to reboot to find it. The screen jumps up and down intermittently. the cursor has a mind of its own, just sometimes. Occasionally I'm typing and the words are 6 letters behind me. It's an Intel core i3-2330M @2.20GHz 6.0 RAM Intel HD graphics 3000 running with Windows 10 64 bit. The most annoying thing is that it drops the internet often, and it can't pick up the 5G wifi in the house only the 2G part. I'm sure you will say it is all fixable, but I can't open machines and fix, so there is a cost to it all.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. That's beyond me! Back to my original post, is the hp one from currys at £499 good value, or is that high processor score suggesting it is cheap for a reason and if so, what is it? Or is it worth spending £70 more for the lenova?
A good screen would be great.silvercar said:In desperate need of a new laptop, budget around £500. I saw an HP one in Argos for £499 but it's out of stock. that had cpu benchmark of 7995.
