PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Nothing to do with house sales but a similar situation - one of our dogs was involved in an altercation with a neighbour's dog. It wasn't a full on fight but a growl and paw lunge. Their dog had a bloodshot eye. We offered to pay the vet fees. They made 4 visits to the vet and had eye drops prescribed used for conjunctivitis and antibiotics. Not sure why 4 visits were necessary but it increased the bill nicely. Anyway, they forwarded the invoices and statements to us, there was an error in calculating the total amount due to double counting of the fees. The following afternoon she was screaming, banging the door and windows, ringing the bell continually demanding payment (drink had been taken). I was on my own and very frightened. I knew that the back doors were open and she could get in and I called the police. My husband arrived home during this and she slapped him across the face (this was during lockdown). We had already written out a cheque to post through her letterbox less the error. Anyway, the upshot was we got continued and really unpleasant harassment every time they encountered us making all sorts of threats. It got so I was frightened to leave the house. After a few weeks of this and the exchange of civil letters from us and abusive letters from them they finally realised they had overstated the cost. They leave us alone now but unfortunately we do see them quite frequently and get dirty looks and stares. I know for a fact that she has spread untruths about us to other neighbours. In a way I still can't believe this happened in a sleepy, quiet rural village.
So I can truly empathise with the stress you are under. I can't really offer anything practical but sympathy.2 -
