That doesn’t make sense. The income Support is payable because you get Carer’s Allowance for looking after your aunt who gets PIP and as such should include the carer Premium. Your PIP claim has nothing to do with this.

Are you sure you mean the carer premium or were you possibly getting a Severe Disability Premium which stopped?
Hi.  Yes, sorry, I must have called it the wrong name.  It must be called severe disability premium.  I remember it was £34.95 a week.  Thanks

My thoughts are that this is the disability premium, which is £34.95 per week from April 2020. Slightly less before April. This disability premium is automatically paid when claiming Income Support and will be backdated to the date your DLA ended.
It has nothing at all to do with carers allowance or the carers premium.
Ok thank you.  So, along with the PIP backdated money, the disability premium will start again (I don't have to contact anyone) and it will also be backdated too?
It would probably be sensible to ring IS and tell them about your PIP award.

It will likely flag up on the computer that there's a PIP award in place. I know with my SDP on top of my ESA caused an issue today with my ESA payment. My PIP award was orginally in place until end of Oct 2020, because of Covid it's been extended until Jan 2022. The computer hadn't been updated with the new PIP award so my payment was suspended because of this. A manual same day payment was made today, which i received earlier this evening.

One would hope so. OP can of course wait a few weeks and see if it reappears and only then ring them if it doesn’t.

Is there not a problem with claiming carers allowance when you are claiming PIP yourself? i thought they were clamping down on this ?

Nope, there's absolutely no problems at all with this and lots of people claim both, myself included. My daughter claims PIP for ASD and a learning disability. I claim PIP for physical reasons. I claim carers allowance for looking after her, which has never caused me any issues at all.

There is no problem unless the care being given contradicts the reasons for claiming PIP.

Care could include simply being present to supervise someone. Equally one person might not be able to bend over to reach their own feet to put shoes on but this wouldn’t prevent them helping someone else put their shoes on by kneeling down or position themselves at different levels of a staircase.

  • On  Monday, I received a backdated PIP payment (from March to now) and I received the carers allowance but, my fortnightly IS was not paid (last payment was 26th October).  I've been waiting to see if any letters came, and today I received a letter confirming there would be a backdated payment of PIP and also future payments.  But that was it, no mention of IS.

Not sure why my IS was not paid.  Does anybody know why this would be the case?  I'll also be best to phone them tomorrow I think as well.  Thanks.

As previously advised your basic IS entitlement has nothing to do with your own PIP claim. The only bit that is related to your PIP claim is the enhanced disability premium. PIP and IS are run by separate teams so a PIP letter will not say anything about your IS.
Your IS is because you receive CA for looking after your aunt and includes the carer premium because of this. You need to ring IS to find out what is happening.

It's very likely that your PIP award has suspended your IS payment because of the disability premium. A simple phone call will sort this out and if you're due a payment they can also make a same day payment.
