Reclaiming carer element & backdating it

UPDATE:
On Monday, I received a backdated PIP payment (from March to now) and I received the carers allowance but, my fortnightly IS was not paid (last payment was 26th October). I've been waiting to see if any letters came, and today I received a letter confirming there would be a backdated payment of PIP and also future payments. But that was it, no mention of IS.
Not sure why my IS was not paid. Does anybody know why this would be the case? I'll also be best to phone them tomorrow I think as well. Thanks.
Hi
Myself and my auntie have been on DLA/PIP, for several years. I also get income support and carer's allowance. I lost my DLA after my medical, my final payment was I think at the start of March (don't have the paper work in front of me, sorry). Anyway, 3 weeks ago, I had my phone interview appeal for PIP and I won. Last week I was sent a letter asking me if I have been in hospital lived abroad etc during my appeal. I contacted my representative and she said it'll just be so they know exactly how much backdated PIP to repay me (I actually missed a call from the DWP yesterday so not sure what they are wanting?) Anyway, what I was wondering is:
1. I still get my income support and carers allowance for my auntie (this has never stopped) but the carer element (£34.95 a week) stopped at the start of March. Do I automatically start getting this again or, do I need to inform someone?
2. Will the carer element also be backdated to the start of March?
Hopefully, this all makes sense. And, thank you.

That doesn’t make sense. The income Support is payable because you get Carer’s Allowance for looking after your aunt who gets PIP and as such should include the carer Premium. Your PIP claim has nothing to do with this.
Are you sure you mean the carer premium or were you possibly getting a Severe Disability Premium which stopped?Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Hi. Yes, sorry, I must have called it the wrong name. It must be called severe disability premium. I remember it was £34.95 a week. Thankscalcotti said:That doesn’t make sense. No that does sound like the carer premium (but would have been £36.85 in March). If you were still getting Carer’s Allowance the carer premium should not have stopped, you need to speak to Income Support about it. As advised previously, you own PIP claim has nothing to do with this.thebailey said:

Oh right. I was told that because my DLA stopped (Start of March), that meant the carer premium from the carers stopped as well.calcotti said:

I'll try and contact DWP tomorrow. Thanks0 -
The carer premium is because you are a carer for someone with a disability, not because you are disabled yourself.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

Are you sure you mean the carer premium or were you possibly getting a Severe Disability Premium which stopped? My thoughts are that this is the disability premium, which is £34.95 per week from April 2020. Slightly less before April. This disability premium is automatically paid when claiming Income Support and will be backdated to the date your DLA ended. It has nothing at all to do with carers allowance or the carers premium.0 -
Ok thank you. So, along with the PIP backdated money, the disability premium will start again (I don't have to contact anyone) and it will also be backdated too?poppy12345 said:thebailey said:

That makes more sense - disability premium paid when claiming IS and in receipt of PIP.poppy12345 said: My thoughts are that this is the disability premium, which is £34.95 per week from April 2020. It's automatically added to your IS and there's no need to contact DWP. Yes, it's also backdated to the date your DLA stopped.

It would probably be sensible to ring IS and tell them about your PIP award.thebailey said:
