Car Finance Cancelled

Hi guys
Purchased a car on PCP, day before lockdown March 2020.

First payment went out, then they refunded me. Queried it with Ford Credit and they advised the dealership cancelled the finance and to set it back up after Covid lockdown.

Flagged it to dealership around August, finally signed the paperwork today.

Now because it’s been 8 months I’m starting again as if I’ve paid 8 months so my term is the same however they have said Ford will contact me to sort out the 8 months I haven’t paid and come to an agreement.

question is would they have noticed if I hadn’t flagged it? (Right or wrong didn’t want this over my head causing me stress), but when Ford do what should I be saying to them as this is their mistake or the dealers who are blaming each other may I add?

0% at least for the term but that’s still a hell of a lot of money?
Money off?
Vouchers for Ford shop?
Any advice you guys can offer I would appreciate it!

  • So, have you not had use of this car for the last 8 months?

Did the OP have the car from March?
Was it just the finance that was cancelled in error, or the finance and the delivery of the car?
If the OP had the car, the 8-months need to be paid and the OP should have expected that and put the funds aside.

Yes. Surely they signed the agreement expecting to pay £x.xx per month.  So if they have been putting that into an account they wil be able to pay Ford all in one go, if that is what they ask for.  I am struggling to see any situation which would show the OP being out of pocket and thus 'deserving of some compo'.
    What am I missing?

I have the money, my situation is that I’m the one that flagged it to them, I’ve had to ensure that they sort the paperwork out. As such meaning backwards and forwards between dealership to sort out the paperwork and issue which the dealership itself advised they hadn’t ever seen before.

Bare in mind at no point have I had any communication.

It would have been identified by Ford / the dealer given time.  There is no such thing as a free lunch, or car.

Never said I should have got it free 👍🏼
  • Work out the mileage done and multiply by 0.45p per mile.  That's your losses.  If they give you a free service or something, then that's goodwill territory.

Thank you, that makes sense and a good way of looking at it.

How is that a loss? The OP has paid petrol, tyre wear etc, amounting to 45p/mile, let's say. But they would have paid this out regardless of whether they had been paying the finance deal or not.
If anything the OP has benefitted from an interest free loan for 8 months. The only loser has been the garage who presumably haven't been paid for the car!
