Cancelling my Virgin Media contract

I have sold my house and moving at the end of the month of November (I am actually leaving the country). I have called Virgin Media ("VM") and the person i have spoken to told me that I am under contract and that I will have to pay the remaining time left on it (7 months). While I under that I am under contract, I asked the agent that as i have been a customer for over 20 years if VM could show some sign of goodwill, after all when i took the contract i honestly did not know that I will be leaving the country, but she did not want to let go and told me that I will have to pay the whole amount, she started lecturing me about what having a contract meant etc, So I don't know if someone on the forum could give me some kind of advice. I have 7 months left, pay £72 per month. I was wondering if I could downgrade my contract to the minimum as an option maybe. Any idea would really appreciated, thank you in advance.

This has come up many, many times before. Read your T&Cs and search the forum. In a nutshell the agreement is/was to provide service at a specific address and if you move (either to an address they don't supply or to an address abroad), that's not a fault on their part, you're breaking the deal, not them.0

The early disconnection fee is capped at £240 so that is the most you will pay if you are going down that route. You'll need to pay 30 days notice as well at £72.

OK thanks. I personally find this unfair in the way that if I could take it with me to my new house I would to run the contract but it's not possible, and also you would think that after paying my bills for over 20 years they could show a little bit of understanding, never mind. Live and learn, thanks for the replies, tallmansix i will call them back tomorrow with my most charming voice and try to get an exit deal

No different to if you move to another house and Virgin don't supply that house, you'd still have to pay early termination.Loyalty and staying with somebody forever and a day doesn't account for anything unfortunately, you get the best deals by chopping and changing, it may be the same thing in whichever country you're moving to.1
