Given wrong type of IPad

Options
Hi!
I bought an iPad Air a few months ago as a gift. It arrived and all was fine.
However, it has now come to my attention that they sent me the wrong type of iPad. They sent me the generic iPad rather than the iPad Air. I have since spoken to Curry/PC World who have said they cannot do anything!
Obviously this is very upsetting and means that I paid around £500 for a £350 IPad!
Can anyone suggest what I can do?? Many thanks!

The big clue would have been that the box had "iPad" on the side of it and not "iPad Air".

Do you still have the receipt? Does it say "iPad" or "iPad Air" on it? Does it have the serial number recorded? Does this match the serial number of the existing iPad?

As above, the evidence will be on the receipt.  Without that, Currys don't have to do anything.

The receipt was for an IPad Air not an iPad.

So they sent you the wrong type of iPad, it wasn't sent directly to the gift recipient?

Their contention would be: Why didn't you pick up it was the wrong product from the box?  Someone dishonest could easily say what you are saying to try and get some money back, unless the serial number is listed on the receipt.  Is it?

No serial number on the receipt no.
Yes they sent it me. Upon messaging them they are seemingly very confused about what they sent me and can’t work it out themselves!

Well that's promising.  It suggests some doubt their end.

Didn't you nor the recipient notice that it looks different? I'm assuming you bought the previous models as the current ones.  have only just been released (September for the iPad and October for the iPad Air), they look quite different to each other and it would be obvious you had the wrong one.

I’ve never had an iPad before nor has the recipient so we had no idea what it should look like. I’m not a tech expert unfortunately.

The issue I suppose now is proving the iPad you have is the iPad they gave you, as opposed to someone buying a cheaper iPad and an expensive one, and then trying to return the cheap one to the expensive seller saying ‘you sent me the wrong one’

As it’s been a few months it’s not surprising that they are a little suspicious

There’s a slim chance that somewhere within the internal systems they could at least recognise the serial number of the iPad you have as at least being one that was shipped to them in the first place - that might add credence to your story. Have you asked them to cross reference the serial number of the iPad you have with their order database ? If it’s found that your iPad serial number was never stocked by them / you’d likely not have a leg to stand on - but if there was a record of that iPad coming into the business you might have more of an argument - although as has been mentioned you might have looked a bit more closely when it arrived to ensure you’d got the right thing.
