Camping shops such as Milletts sell complete meals in a packet. I would advise shopping around, as prices can vary and they may seem pricey for what they offer. Bananas are a good alternative.;)

ooops sorry just seen this, great minds eh ?

....................not sure if anybody has mentioned packets of couscous - very tasty and a few different varieties available.
  • My son is working away and is staying in digs.
He works 12 hour nights and has no where to cook.
The only thing he has is a kettle and he's been living on pot noodles.
His digs don't start breakfasts until 8.00 am and he is in bed by then.
He does come back at weekends and I feed him up but wondered if you had any suggestions as to what he could do throughout the week.
I don't know how he manages as he's got a very physical job.

Could you buy him a cheapo microwave?
Is there any way he could stay up until 8am to get the the breakfast?

What about one of these electric pans that you can do anything in... can be used to fry, braise, roast etc etc..

Is he allowed to cook in his room? A lot would disallow it - and he'd then have washing up to do. Washing up in digs would be a lot harder than trying to find cooking solutions. Although I've no idea what "digs" means in his instance as it could mean many things.

As it's only during the week - and you feed him up at weekends, I'd just suggest he gets one longlife loaf on a Sunday - and some jam, paste, peanut butter. And a fistful of fruit. And a couple of litres of fruit juice. And some breakfast cereal he can eat without milk (I eat frosties and sugar puffs without milk).

Smash comes in a variety of flavours and is "instant food" easily made with a kettle.

A slow cooker might be good. He could set it going when he leaves for work, and a meal would be ready when he gets home. As a former night shift worker myself, I can vouch for the fact that you really do want a proper savoury meal at 6am. I wish slow cookers had been invented in the 70's.
