I dont know how well it would work, but the tins of condensed soup could be mixed with boiling water and they would be warm. Mind you if you're going to have soup I guess you'd have instant packet soup. *sigh*. sorry - thinking out loud through my fingers :D

I believe they even boiled eggs in there! (though not sure how)

I used to have a electic coil thingy that you put in a mug to boil one cup of water at a time. When I was working I used to use it in the mug to boil an egg, so I guess you could boil an egg in a kettle, but you would need to leave the lid open I guess, best try it at home first
  • Asda do "mighty soups" - packet cuppa soups with bits of pasta in to make them more substantial, they usual have em on 3 or 4 for £1.

Think theres another brand in there that has slightly bigger packs. In both cases just add hot water.

Have a look next to the Pot Noodles in supermarkets. There are loads of similar type meals in pots where you just add water - things like casseroles, pasta, cous cous, as well as noodles. I've had a Heinz Big Eat one before and it was surprisingly tasty.

I'm not sure how healthy they are, but Tesco do Healthy Living one which may be ok for you.
Here I go again on my own....

I'm definitely taking these ideas into consideration and let you all know how I get on. Any more please keep them coming!
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T
  • Boil In The Bag

Why not buy some roasting bags, then take tinned soups, beans, spaggetti or pasta twists etc, anything tinned that would normally require a saucepan or microwave, empty the contents of tin into roasting bag and place in kettle to boil with kettle lid open
  • Ohhhh...

Just remebered, my local chinese supermarket does a range of noodle type things, never tried them, but some of them may be just add water.

i think you'd be better off looking into army ration packs which you can buy off of ebay. there is one example here, but there are many different options available. chances are its got to be decent stuff, because they wouldnt be feeding someone who has to go into combat any old rubbish :D

  • I cook plain pasta in a thermos flask - I have a 'weekend cooler one' (these seem much lighter than the std one for some reason) which I can cook past for 5 in in about 10 mins,

I spent a week on a survival training course with some ex-army people eating this stuff.

It's actually pretty rubbish stuff as a whole. It's mega high calorie as it is designed to provide high density energy to troops in combat, not back at barracks etc. I think there's 4000 cals/pack!! Menu B is ok - the rest are absolutely foul. They put biscuits in there as well. Don't eat them unless they're sogged up in tea - instant constipation. The lemon and orange drinks dont mix and are addictive as anything if the powder is scoffed neat. Don't ask what the meat is!

I would eat it again though!
£8k to pay off before Jan 2011! Was 28k to pay off by Jan 2010 though so I'm happy :)
