I am at home most of the time the heating is on twce a day, an hour in the morning , then 4 hours evening. Is it cheaper to turn radiator stats down to , say, 1, in the late evening and leave heating ticking over overnight, then set them at 2 during the day and leave the heating on all the time instead of having them on 3 [ set at 4 in living rm] and having heat on twice a day?
its oil fuel. Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
This question is asked loads of times, and there is simply no answer to your question as there are so many variables; mainly how low is '1' and how high is '3' and how good the insulation is in your house.
I don't think many would suggest you leave heating on all night, although if you go to bed with the room temperature at '3'(and turn down the TRV to '1') the room temperature might not fall to '1' by morning - so the boiler is effectively off.
We have timers for a reason - so you should use them.
Personally I have the CH on for a period in morning and again in evening and on for periods during the day on an 'as required' basis.
I suggest you read this thread:

It doesn't matter if it is oil, gas, electricity, lpg etc.
It gives links to other threads as well.0
