You want to drop the price? Why? Is it worth less than it was before the announcement?

As far as I would be concerned, nothing has changed if you're buying or selling.
The further  lockdown, after we were told that there definitely would not be one, is an issue that could reasonably alter property prices. I would expect more demand for places with gardens etc, and less for smaller flats. There must be some reasonable concern that we will have repeated lockdowns this winter and possibly next as well. Add in the further economic damage too.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I dont see why they would close, I didn't see them on the list I saw earlier, I'm confident they will stay open, some solicitors will no doubt be working from home.

It’s interesting to see some post here. Any lockdown will harm business and increase the unemployment. The lender will tighten their mortgage criteria again. The purchase process will obviously take longer and the sale will be more likely than usual to fall through.

I'm pleased to say my surveyor, who was on leave last week when I approached him, has just made contact.  He is able to do my survey at the end of this week or beginning of next, dependant upon vendor availability.

From the comments here I think punters seem to be unaware that a huge proportion of solicitors (as well as people in other sectors) have been working from home continuously since March, so this is all just business as usual.
Yes I did consider mentioning that.
I know the solicitor Im using has been working from home since the last lockdown.

My solicitor also works from home, the train timetable was so reduced during the first lockdown.

  • My personal view is that a conservative government will do all it can to keep house prices high and will continue the stamp duty holiday into the summer. The market always slows in December but this year there’ll be a mad rush to complete before March- they’ll announce the extension end Jan/ Feb.
  • We're in the middle of selling, to move from our lovley house to one that needs renovating. To be honest, it really is giving us second thoughts - we're comfortable and happy where we are, we love our house.  The main reason we're selling it is to move closer to be with family in town, but at the minute, with everything so sketchy, and added pressure from our purchasers (they are wanting tpo move as fast as possible, and certainly before the end of the month) and a narrowing of the time between exchange and purchase, the whole thing is becoming so pressured we aren't far from walking away altogether.  I hate being rushed, and know that in other circumstances we wouldn't be. Yet it's hard to walk away from a sale, too.
