You can't claim furlough - it is up to the employer whether or not to put people on furlough. They will not be able to furlough you, even if they wish to, unless they have already processed a payment to you through PAYE.
Universal Credit may be an option depending on circumstances. You cannot claim if you have savings over £16,000. If you have a partner you must both claim and any entitlement will be based on joint circumstances. If you are getting Tax Credits these will end if you choose to start a Universal Credit claim.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

You joined mid-October.  Did you get paid a part month at the end of October?

Reading the BBC website it states,
"employees must have been on the payroll by 30 October 2020, but they don't need to have been furloughed before."
I guess it all boils down to whether you got paid before the 30th October.
  • Have you been paid yet?
    No not yet

You probably will not be eligible for furlough, which has to be claimed by the employer.
There doesn't seem to be any reason for the past employer to put you on furlough.
What does your contract say about lay-off?  The contract is still valid.
Other than that, it may be UC.

My new job is only a 12 week temporary contract,so I don’t think that wud be any help,I only changed jobs because our hours were cut at my old job, beginning to wish I’d stayed there,at least I would have got furlough
