Half a minute in the microwave. I don't like cold plates, but neither do I like plates that are too hot to handle.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

Thirty seconds would be my maximum, but I don't think that you can damage the microwave itself. It could just be a coincidence that your microwave stopped working after a few years of use.Put a cup of water in there too, if you think it can cause damage.

Half a minute in the microwave, with water in the plates, works well for me.Or sticking the plates in the oven at the end of cooking, if there's already something in the oven.Or pouring hot water into the plates, then tipping it off again if I was already boiling the kettle for something else.Or standing the plates on top of a saucepan, instead of a lid, at the end of cooking veg.Or filling the washing bowl with hot water and sticking a stack of plates in, if I am doing lots of plates. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
My mum's oven only has one compartment so she can't heat plates while oven cooking on high heat so I got her thisShe loves it.

You can get stone/granite slabs to heat in the microwave and use under your plate. They are called "Keep it Hot" My MIL used to use on all the time.0

I put boiled or cold water on plate, stack them in microwave, 30 seconds or so per plate when I start cooking. Every now and then I put on for extra 30 seconds to top up heat. By doing it this way, over time, the heat penetrates into the plate better. Being stacked heats top and bottom of plate. Rather than just heating up before serving.0
