best way to warm plates.

I can not abide hot food on cold plate. so for years I have allways warmed the plate for 2 mins in the microwave. then one day the microwave gave a strange noise and refused to work. someone told me after the event, never warm plates in the microwave because you end up melting the workings of the oven and it wont work. I can put it in the oven but I've cracked a few doing that. just wondering what other people do?

my husband likes to warm plates and he used to do so by putting them in the oven.  i don't actually like warm plates and prefer my plate to be cold.

My quick method was put them in a basin of just off boiling water for a few minutes.

That’s what I do if using the bottom oven. If not using it, I use the grill.
Not ideal but don’t know of another way. Hot water maybe but it’s not always hot enough.
  • thanks for the comments. the cooker I have has only one main oven. I have seen on amazon and ebay plate warmers designed for the microwave, but not sure how effective they are.

I would continue to use the microwave, but put a little water on the plates first.  That way the microwave as some moisture to heat up and it will warm the plates much more effectively, without any risk to the workings of the microwave itself.

If the oven is on, and there's room, I use that but failing that I just use the microwave. Been using the microwave to do this for decades and never had any issues. Some crockery, such as earthenware, may crack after a while but you can counter this by adding a touch of water to the plate/bowl.

Hot water, as above. Don’t see the point of buying something just for that.
Although I’ve never had an issue with plates in the microwave or the oven.

There’s also electric plate warmers on Amazon.
Good idea about using water on the plate in the microwave. Was concerned about it heating with nothing in there. Can damage it.
