What financial support is my partner entitled to?

Hi all
Due to the latest lockdown, my partner who is a self employed hairdresser will be unable work. She is not eligible for SEISS due to this being her first year in self employment. I work full time on a low income. From what I’ve read, she wouldn’t even be entitled to universal credit due to my colossal 18k salary. Does anyone have any suggestions? The best we came up with in the first lockdown was ESA which was around £70 a week.

There may be financial support in the announcement when it happens, so may be better to wait and see what is said.

That will depend on your circumstances (whether you have children and whether you rent being the main factors). If you are a couple with no children, not renting, not caring for a disabled person and with no health problems limiting ability to work then you are correct that a salary of £18,000 will mean no UC entitlement.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
No children and we own our home.0

You would need to support your partner during this difficult time. It’s what couples do.2

It’s a good job you said that Mark, I was tempted to kick her out the house and divorce her because she can’t pay her way. Thanks again Mark.2

This won't be possible unless she has a health condition that prevents her from working.Stu6781 said:Does anyone have any suggestions? The best we came up with in the first lockdown was ESA which was around £70 a week.

You need to consider all options.Stu6781 said:It’s a good job you said that Mark, I was tempted to kick her out the house and divorce her because she can’t pay her way. Thanks again Mark.0 -
If she was employed from April 2017 to April 2019 and was earning enough to pay or be treated as having paid NI then she can claim new style JSA. £74.35/week for upto 26 weeks.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

I know. It’s amazing what options people forget. Ha.Stu6781 said:It’s a good job you said that Mark, I was tempted to kick her out the house and divorce her because she can’t pay her way. Thanks again Mark.0
