Resigned to fact we probably now wont be able to move this side of Christmas

Tallmansix - my priorities are what they have always been - stay safe, follow the guidelines and protect the people I love during this awful situation. However, the fact is that we are 2 months into a move and were being told that our cash buyers wanted to complete asap which is why we had to start packing up as we have a lot of stuff to be moved. I think it is perfectly reasonable to feel disappointed. Christmas makes no difference. Our family live 100 miles away and we had already resigned ourselves to the fact we probably wont be able to see them at Christmas. My 90 year old Mother in law is in a care home also 100 miles away and we were last able to see her in March due to the fact that the home she is in has been trying to keep its residents safe which we respect. These are the things which matter more than moving but we are now in limbo, surrounded by boxes and unsure when and if a sale and purchase will happen so obviously it has taken away our excitement about our future home.7

It appears, according to the secretary of housing that house purchases can still proceed.

This^^^Doozergirl said:There was such confusion last time that a lot of people stopped work that didn't need to. The advice was always that if you couldn't work from home then you should go to work, if your workplace wasn't specifically closed down.I think it will be clearer if it happens again. Our solicitor is still working from home, so most processes are up and running in place now.The problems come if someone in the chain gets nervous, as happened to us last time. We were supposed to exchange on lockdown day and the calls were going up and down the line to make it happen when someone pulled out. We're hoping for completion in 10 days this time. I'd really appreciate it if we could just get it over the line! 🤦🏼♀️
I dont as in physical terms see the market stopping, but in terms of buyers nerves that is something very different.
I had a very motivated buyer and I with an empty property and the debts hanging heavy from building this place was a very motivated seller, however in a chain of 5 I felt both me and the buyer dragged the chain along by its feet to make it complete in just over 3 months. I dont think either of us thought markets and professionals would stop work but we could pre-empt what a lock down announcement may do to the rest of the chain. Thank god the completion came on Friday,5 -
I am 100% with you on this. My son lives in Hong Kong and I'm so happy we met up in Sydney to celebrate my 'big' birthday in February. Who knows when it will be safe to meet again? Stepson, wife & grandsons live 170 miles away and for various reasons, we haven't seen them at all this year. Its very hard. Add the uncertainty of a house sale & purchase into the mix, its no wonder we're struggling. I just keep reminding myself that it could be very much worse, as it is for many.uralmaid said:Tallmansix - my priorities are what they have always been - stay safe, follow the guidelines and protect the people I love during this awful situation. Final update. On Monday my estate agent was emailing and calling the supposed buyers all day to find out their new solicitor details. No response then a terse email saying "I will let you have the details tomorrow" Every day nothing. On Friday after discussions with our solicitor and estate agent they have done a lot of digging and found out that the buyers never paid for searches or made any further contact with their solicitor so he had not done any work on their purchase. Definitely wont be moving before Christmas now and not sure when if ever. Property back on the market and back to a different anxiety - ie. worrying that no-one will want to view. Oh the joys of being a "property magnate" lol0
