GE Capital (store cards)

  • I had one of those GE Capital store cards (Burton branded) back in the mid 00s. Applied for it on a whim when offered it in store, something I'd never do now. Got a £200 limit and all was fine for a few years until just before Santander took over they reduced my limit to £100 for some unknown reason. Then when Santander took over they just blankly closed my account without a reason only for it to still appear as a live credit account on my credit files for over a year later until I queried it.

Come to think of it I probably did have PPI on it but for some reason the PPI claim company I used (I know I shouldn't have) never found that account.

If you had PPI and had a balance on the card (not paying off every month) then you it would have been on every statement as a charge. If you paid the balance in full every month you could have had PPI but never paid any premiums so nothing to refund regardless of whether anyone found it

I didn't always clear the balance every month so there was probably some PPI charges but in the grand scheme of things it wouldn't be much even if I had claimed it back. Other than that I have no idea as the card was closed in 2008 when Santander took over.
