GE Capital (store cards)

I’m new to these forums so please excuse me if this has been covered. In the late 90’s early 00’s I had a number of store cards with ge capital as A lot of people did. I had tried to claim back ppi on it. The debt/cards got taken over by Santander at some point and I have struggled to find out how I would claim ppi back as Santander denied any knowledge of it.
I know I had ppi and I know it was mis-sold. I also understand my time has passed. Just wondering if anyone successfully claimed and how they did it.
I also had other credit cards at the time that denied my claim (most paid up) but aqua & capital one did refuse.

The time has now passed so whether people got anything back is irrelevant at this late stage.
  • It might be irrelevant to you but me it’s not!
If you read my post it states I know it’s passed but since I have tried to make a claim previously I was wondering if anyone successfully claimed.
I have today received a cheque from another lender that I claimed from at the same time. So although yes it has passed to try again people are still receiving payouts!
  • Indeed they are but these are for claims which began before last year's deadline date of 29th August.
There are still millions of claims still going through the system.
  • I do get that!
That still hasn’t answered my original question.
all I was wanting to know if anyone had successfully received a payout from ge capital or whoever took over the card services!

Not unless you started a claim before August 29 last year.
If you have and Santander have said they have no record it will all be down to one thing - whether you have any evidence to prove your case.
Under GDPR companies can get heavily filed for holding information or data that is not required.
I'm sorry but you saying '' I know I had PPI and know it was missold'' won't cut the mustard. You could try DSAR to see if any information turns up but don't hold your breath.

If you read the PPI forum, GE did pay out for some cards, it depended on when the card was transferred to Santander. If the card was closed before that date then Santander have no reason to have any records of you.
Regardless, if your complaint is closed (and you're out of date passing it to the FOS) and/or you didn't open it before the deadline last year then you CANNOT make a complaint, they will simply reject it due to the deadline passing.

Thank you for your reply That helps a lot.
i did have some purely with ge capital & some transferred over.
I did apply before the deadline But I was just interested as to whether they did pay out
when I first started my venture I did have all details but throughout the years I’ve lost them

I’m sorry I didn’t realise I’d put this in the wrong forum site!

Our PPI team were all told that they would be made redundant before the end of the year, in the month prior to the 29 August 2019 for claims. The vast majority (some jumped instead of waiting for pay out 🤷‍♂️ ) are still working through the stupid rush of claims in the last 3 weeks.
Odd how despite the length of time people had to claim they were miss sold, that they wait till the last minute to submit a claim... Best ones are the people that have actually claimed on the policy, had a pay out & then claim it was mis sold 🤦‍♂️

You can still apply for the hidden commission charges on the sale of any PPI.

To be more accurate, you can complain about Plevin on a rejected / unsubmitted PPI complaint, however, not all commission was above the 50% threshold to allow Plevin to kick in
  • I had one of those GE Capital store cards (Burton branded) back in the mid 00s. Applied for it on a whim when offered it in store, something I'd never do now. Got a £200 limit and all was fine for a few years until just before Santander took over they reduced my limit to £100 for some unknown reason. Then when Santander took over they just blankly closed my account without a reason only for it to still appear as a live credit account on my credit files for over a year later until I queried it.

Come to think of it I probably did have PPI on it but for some reason the PPI claim company I used (I know I shouldn't have) never found that account.
