Still effectively pushed. It was a good example of tick boxing for gender/racial etc balances but not getting the right people. Shame really as Whiley and Mayo say they are good friends but the on-air chemistry just didn't work.
IMO, Simon Mayo is one of the best radio presenters out there. He doesn't dumb down but manages to get the audience to engage. A skill that BBC have fail to build on.

Wasn't pushed by the BBC though that's what I mean, OFCOM wanted the change in balance. The show format didn't work for sure but there was a way better approach - pension off Steve Wright for example, his show was dated in the 80s let alone 2020, with the terrible jokes, impressions etc. Whiley plays good music but that constant sucking air through the teeth grates with me, can't listen to her show. If she slowed down 25% and took in more natural breaths it would be ok but she speaks for about 30 seconds then tssssssss right in the mic
