Electric will take less than an hour, gas a little over.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

You can refuse if you wish. But Boris said it was ok and the engineers are all fully trained with PPE gear.0

Which part of the country are you in please? Trying to get EON to do mineI am not a cat (But my friend is)0

I received the same letter after they sent me numerous text messages and an email first which I left unanswered. I am slightly put off by the meters as I don't mind providing meter readings myself. Will also avoid another piece of plastic that consumes extra energy throughout the year as I understand it must be on all the time. I also heard stories when the meter was wrong or was interrupting other device in the household to work properly. Until this is enforceable by law, I think I'll pass.1

Has anyone else had one of these letters? The main thing worrying me, is that we are in the middle of a pandemic, we are isolating as much as possible and they reckon the job will take 2 hours, with the services switched off.
Hi andygb, hope you’re well.
I understand your concerns in terms of booking the appointment. Especially with the new measures starting from today, which may not have been announced when you originally posted this.
Our engineers will maintain a 2-metre distance at all times during the appointment and in most cases ask you to remain in a separate room. As well as this they will wear suitable PPE in accordance with guidelines and carry hand sanitizers and anti-bacterial wipes to cleanse surfaces before and after touching them.
As it stands we are still carrying out installations and would love to get an appointment booked in. However if you wish to put a pin in it for now that is absolutely fine. We’ll write to you again in a couple of months to check back with you. If you change your mind at any point you should be able to schedule an appointment online.
Thanks, Matt

Thanks for your reply, however we are now in a second lockdown, with schools and universities open, utility companies working as normal. The government must think we are stupid. There are tens of thousands dying from Covid-19, so we need a strict lockdown, not one where 30% of the people are still spreading the virus around.

2 metre distancing in my house would mean absolutely no idea what they are doing. Not going to happen! Well done though on knowing the difference between metre & meter.

Is fitting a meter essential? No but the industry is applying pressure to installers and other parts of the industry to carry on fitting smart meters - this must be coming from the government as understandably installation targets are not being met.....not sure who’s target0
