Credit Card Travel Refunds esp. JLFS: don’t give up!

Anyone had trouble getting their credit card to pay up for travel refunds?
We’ve had an absolute nightmare with John Lewis Financial Services (aka HSBC), getting them to accept our claim for a COVID-cancelled ski trip in March - despite their legal obligations under Section 75 of Consumer Credit Act. Of course, we are also protected by the Package Travel Regulations (which should have facilitated a Chargeback claim against the tour operator, Silver Ski) - but JLFS remained inscrutable & unreasonable. After a 5-month struggle & a formal complaint, they’ve just coughed up, plus compensation & expenses. I’m aware of others having similar problems with JLFS & Silver Ski, so - don’t give up!
Although JLFS have paid up - it doesn’t end here. They haven’t admitted any liability - they just say they’ve ‘written off the disputed amount”. After all the pain they’ve caused us & others, I believe they must be required to face up to their responsibilities.
So our complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service still stands...
It would be interesting to hear from others who’ve had similar problems - briefly, please! 😉

I'm still in a dispute with Nationwide over a deposit paid to STA Travel which they didn't pass on to the tour operator before they went belly up (I posted about it yesterday.) Out of curiosity, do you mind indicating what sort of compensation and expenses you got, and was that initiated by JLSF or did you demand and itemise those payments yourself?0

STA Travel refund issue
Hello I know there have been a few posts regarding STA Travel, just wondering if anybody has had any luck with a refund?
My daughter paid her deposit September 2019 for a trip to Costa Rica due in April 2020, the full amount was paid by credit card in January (before the situation was known about COVID) The trip was cancelled by STA travel 12th March, we were promised a refund on a weekly basis upto the day before they went into liquidation. When this happened I turned to my credit card company (John Lewis) as the Civil Aviation Authority issued a letter rejected a claim via ATOL (although I have an ATOL certificate), months have passed and eventually John Lewis credited my card with the full amount, however, last week they informed me that STA Travel dispute the claim and I should claim through ATOL, i resent the rejection letter but at the moment no confirmation of payment.
I have taken advise from a legal helpline I get with work, which reiterated Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. If John Lewis re-debit my credit card for the £2500.00 I am at a loss as to what to do, nobody will speak to me at John Lewis, they only take a message, its my daughters money, which i paid on my credit card to ensure none of this happened!
Has anybody had any luck? I was thinking my next step would be to go to the Ombudsman?
Keep safe everyone0 -
