The COVID Symptom Study app and NHS COVID-19 app are different. Here’s why you need both!

I also shall be installing neither app. I'll comply with the laws regarding this hysteria to the extent legally necessary but that's about it.

I see a lot of people stating they won't be using the track and trace app because it's not legally enforceable.

I didn't realise so many people needed their hands held through life, and aren't able to see what's best for society without it being the law. Either that or just selfishness.

We don't need our hands held - quite the opposite. We're employing a little independence of thought, rather than blithely swallowing what politicians say is "best" for us.

So what if nobody has to legally pay any attention to it? I've got the app and i wish everyone else did so that i would at least know if i had been near someone who had tested positive so i could take proper precautions. 
It's selfish people like you who don't care and only make the minimum effort who are causing locking restrictions to get tighter.

Looks like half the adult population of the UK are "selfish" then given the number of downloads, and even that wont account for people who later deleted it.  Ho hum.

Unlike us, the NHS COVID-19 app has been created to support the government’s efforts to control the spread of the virus through testing and contact tracing. It has a basic symptom checker, which includes the three ‘classic’ symptoms, to help identify people eligible for a test. It also notifies users if they’ve been in 'close contact' with someone who then tests positive for coronavirus and allows them to check in to venues using a QR code.
 

The bottom line

The apps are totally separate and entirely compatible, meaning you can and are highly encouraged to use both to help us all get through the pandemic.

It’s important for as many people as possible to keep using the COVID Symptom Study app to monitor their health on a daily basis and contribute to vital research into the pandemic. You can also log on behalf of family and friends who aren’t able to use the app, including children and the elderly.


We need everyone to play their part to help us all get through this. We urge you to download and use both apps to help us get through COVID-19 over the months ahead.

Do you have approval from MSE to your these 2 apps?

I see that the OP has started 3 very similar threads here over the past few weeks. I suspect they have some sort of axe to grind.

For the avoidance of doubt - I am very happy to follow any request to isolate issued by the official test and trace service, but not to download apps that have no legal authority.

Social distancing is guidance and not law so you ae probably one of the people who make no effort to socially distance in public either i bet and happily walk right up to strangers.

Maybe when you can log that you are leaving a venue that you have logged in to I will feel it is more useful. So it has some idea of who was there at the same time as you.
Also, when it has some awareness of whether those that are in your vicinity are protected behind PPE or screens I will have more confidence in it. My bluetooth sees your bluetooth seems a very inadequate way of judging whether someone should need 14 days of isolation.

PPE and screens don't stop particles in the air so if your close to someone who has the virus there is no guarantee that a screen will stop you from being infected it only reduces the chance.

I don't understand why people are so resistant to download the app and log a positive test if they have one, at least then the sensible people will know when to be more cautious and the silly people can just completely ignore any notifications. It's very selfish to not have the app at all when you can just because you don't like the idea of it when other people do want too know if they have potentially been exposed.

Yes they are selfish and that's why the government have to impose mandatory lockdowns and have had to introduce a tier system because selfish people were not following the guidelines and were spreading the virus. 

It makes not difference too how serious people take this virus or if they believe it will cause them no harm, the fact is that if it spreads more there will be more restrictions. So selfish people like you who don't care are the ones at fault.
