Motor Ombudman Final Decision Not Paid

Options
Back in June 2018 I had to raise a complaint with the motor ombudsman as a garage I used had been in competent with regards to the work and awkward with handling it very much a fan of going quiet and hoping you just go away
Finally had a decision from the ombudsman stating they should give me back most of my money. When linked in on emails to the ombudsman they seems to be honouring it but the final decision was awarded in July and I have yet to see my money. They wanted to do a bank transfer but the relationship is so sour and they have been so childish I chose a cheque.  Last email was 07/10/2020 and they claimed to rarely use cheques so was taking time.
Can I just raise this at small claims orare these ombudsman decisions not worth a great deal?

Accept a bank transfer and get on with your life.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

Time to get into the 21st century... wouldnt even know where to start looking for any of my cheque books and I imagine some millennials wouldn't even know what a cheque is... probably think you want the bill from a restaurant after watching too many US programmes with people asking for the check.

There is a notable risk that you may lose costs in any court action if the defendant points out they offered to make payment but you refused to provide details to allow a BACS transfer.
  • fair comment and i don't use cheques myself but they have been edging towards the malicious side in some dealings including aluding to physical force so am a bit loathed to give out bank details.

So rather than do the simple thing and get the payment pretty much straight away, you decided to be a bit awkward for awkwards sake and wonder why the relationship has soured. Who's being the childish one there..
  • If you've ever paid by cheque before then you've previously given out at least as much information as is needed to do a BACS transfer - if not more.

Nothing to do with being awkward just don't want to give them my bank details. If you knew the full story you would not believe the levels of being awkward they have exhibited I went along with their attempts to fix it but after fitting the wrong parts 6 times most would lose faith. What I get for going to a shiny "dealership alternative" nearby rather than the backstreet garage used for years.
  • What are they going to be able to do with your bank details other than pay you what they owe? They certainly can't take anything out from your account.

Sounds like you're the childish one.

I can imagine why the garage got awkward in the first place.  My bet is you're one of "those" customers.

I give it ten minutes before somebody comes up with the Clarkson charity DD thing...

...ignoring the very fact it was a DD, so he'd have got his money straight back, and that relatively few organisations can set DDs up without a signed paper instruction - and are under even stricter rules of liability than the normal DD guarantee...

Just think about how many businesses publish their bank account details publicly, to enable their customers to pay them more easily...

Jeremy Clarkson thought this was the case, too.  So he published his bank details in his newpaper column.  Can't remember the details but someone set-up a direct debit which took money from his account.
