Anyone, including you, will be able to get both the registered owner and insurance details from the registration plate assuming you wish to pursue a claim.
Point of order ... there is no such thing. The DVLA holds the registered keeper data. :)

Kindertons sold my details on to claims companies.
Kindertons is a claims company... they may resell certain parts or maybe it was sister companies as their website promotes their own credit hire capabilities etc.
I had 5 years of "You are owed thousands in compensation for injuries in that accident" after.

I get that anyway and I've not had an accident in years (and the three I have had in my driving history have all clearly been my fault)

You may have a 14 day cooling off period

This is definitely what's called a non-fault accident. Kindertons make their money from selling your claim to a law firm who will pursue your personal injury (if any). They also make money on any hire car they provide you (be careful with this one as their charges can be much higher than standard rates and you may be personally responsible for any shortfall if the other party refuses to pay the inflated charge). They also make money from charging the repairer a percentage of the repair cost.

You could, of course, undertake all of this work yourself, but they are specialists in this area and well-respected
