Just Moved - BT/Virgin

Hi,
Just moved house and was previously with SKY for TV and BB. BB was quite good with 66Mbps. Had them for years and had some good discounts but they had began to play hard ball. My new property can't really have a dish up and I don't really want that anyway as NowTV, Amazon and Netflix can provide all that.
Anyway I started with BT who recommended BT Fibre 1 for £29.99 but quickly realised I had been sold a pup. My exchange is further away and best speed I get is 30Mbps. So I phoned back and said why had they sold me this when Fibre Essentials was cheaper and would offer me the same speed. They insisted on sending out all new equipment and restarting the service. Anyway today I spotted Virgin in my area and spoke with the engineer who came round and said it would require a cable to be run from the pavement (the wire has been cut but I can see it) to my house. As my daughter also recently got Virgin he suggested she recommend me and we both get £50 off.
So I am tempted to switch within my 14 day cool off period, as its 100Mbps for the same price and only 18 months contract over the BT 24 month contract. Just concerned with how long it will take to set up as I had to wait 14 days after I moved in with BT even though there was an active line already in place. At my old address it took Virgin 5 weeks to sort out their cable!

Decision's up to you, but you will still need to pay BT something since you've had the service for up to 14 days, a cooling-off period doesn't automatically imply you get that period for free, and you would still have to return whatever they sent you to enable you to use it - router, etc.
Virgin Media use their own network. Installation times are similar to Openreach network providers at approximately 14 days for a new customer.
However, if you have an existing Virgin Media connection they offer a self-service package called QuickStart.

Thanks Neil, I did realise I will have to pay something plus loose the postage costs and return the two units.Just phoned back virgin and they initally said £34/month but I told them about the £23.99/month deal on here plus £100 off and they matched it and then gave my daughter and I £50 off as well. So 18 month contract with £150 credit on my bill!Result. Lets hope the installation is trouble free0
