Well since you didn’t actually listen to the phone call not sure how you can assume I “went off” - not helpful.2

I had a missed payment of £10 to a credit card, the Direct Debit had gone dormant and neither the card issuer or bank informed me, the card issuer covered all fees as my payment method still showed "whole bill by Direct Debit"
You were lucky to get the fee refunded as the problem was entirely your fault.

Your credit SCORE is meaningless, it's a made-up number that only you can see. What lenders see is the credit report itself, and they have their own things they care about - CCJs, defaults, missed payments etc.Even someone with a CCJ can get a mortgage through a broker if the CCJ was a fair while ago and they've been managing their affairs well for some time.A single late payment if everything else is fine isn't going to have much impact at all, even mainstream lenders won't care about it in 18 months time, just make sure this is the only 'blip' you have. One late payment could be down to something easily explained away (arguments over returns/refunds/swapping the DD and the new one wasn't set up in time), but several missed payments in a short space of time would look to a lender's algorithms like "this person was short on money".Start Debt Jun 2020 = £10,036 - Current £5,894 | #324 £1,000 Emergency Fund Member - £2050

Make a note for yourself. Set up direct debits for all bills in future. Lesson learnt. Move on.
Likewise don't become obsessed with your credit score. More important is how you use and manage the credit you apply for. That's what lenders are looking at, personal financial management.0 -

I referred to Argos as being awful just because the First advisor I spoke to was really rude and dismissive and say there is no way they could refund the late fee, it was a “computer says no” moment. But I asked to speak to the complaints team and they instantly said they could refund the fee but couldn’t do anything with the credit report because as you have quite rightly pointed out it was my own stupid fault. But hey, we are all human and not robots. Lesson learnt though
Probably worth bearing in mind in future when you think someone is being "rude and dismissive" just because they're not doing what you want them to do. Rarely is it because they don't want to, it's far easier to give the customer what they want than sit there arguing with them for 10, 15, 20+ minutes. More often than not it's because they don't have the tools and/or the authority to do what is being asked of them.
Here the OP is 100% at fault, they missed a payment deadline they's contractually agreed to keep. They have no right to get either the late fee back nor any right that the company should lie for them and incorrectly report the truth. The reason the complaints team will have refunded the £12 late fee was not because the customer was in the right or deserved to have it refunded, but to try and prevent the complaint being escalated to FCA or waste more staff time for the sake of £12.4 -
Great input 🤣0

1 - You paid 2 days late and it was reported on your file as a Late Payment. Ive never seen a company in my entire life report a late payment for 2 days, you get usually 14-28 days grace. The very minimum is 7 days.
2 - You only just paid the late payment and already you checked your CRA file and its showing up. Once again, that's impossible for such a quick turn around - CRA agencies report the previous month.1 -

hoping someone might be able to put my mind at ease. I have an Argos card which I took out to pay for a large appliance on 0% over 6 months. Never missed a payment before but stupidly last month I took my eye off the ball and suddenly remembered I had not paid my bill so paid it 2 days late.I phoned Argos customer service, who were awful by the way, not understanding at all, and although they refunded the £12 late fee they said there is nothing they can do with regards to the missed payment mark on my credit file.
i appreciate this is my fault and to stop it happening again I have set up a direct debit.I am just really upset and worried because I have never ever missed a payment on any credit account before and I am working really hard to pay off debts and save up a house deposit with a view to buying my first home in 12-18 months. Has this silly mistake now scuppered my chances of getting a mortgage?Any help or similar stories of success appreciated0 -
Wow some seriously nasty and negative people on here. In the current climate I thought people would have a little more kindness in their hearts. You obviously get off on put other people down, says a lot about you0
