Hinged shower door opening angle

How long is a piece of string question...  I'm looking to get a hinged shower door, but none of the manufacturer specs seem to tell you how wide the door will swing open.  We have a toilet in front of the shower, and I want to have to door opening so that it swings out towards it.  However, if the hinges allow the door to open past 90 degrees, it could well hit the toilet pan.  Does anyone know if it's pretty standard at 90 degrees or will it vary by manufacturer?

It'll vary by manufacturer and design, but it's usually a fair bit more than 90 degrees.  Our shower is the same as you describe - the door will hit the toilet.  But it's never been a problem for us - just don't go flinging the door open at high velocity :-)  And don't forget, the door will be either toughened glass or plastic of some sort - it's not going to shatter just by gentle contact with the toilet.

Why not look at pivot doors that open half in half out of shower?

To be honest I'm more worried about the toilet!!  I asked my husband if he could be trusted not to fling it back too hard and he said "75% of the time", which didn't fill me with confidence.

If I could find one I would, but I've yet to come across a pivot one for a 1400mm space.

You can have a sliding one for that!

We have a sliding one at the moment, and I deplore cleaning it.  I hated cleaning the ones at our old house too.  That's the main reason I want a hinged one instead.

I might have got the wrong end of the stick but the toilet pan should be below the bottom of the screen so it will pass over it.

If it's an over-bath shower, yes.  But if it's a stand-alone shower cubicle, the door is usually full-length to just a few inches above the floor.
  • Sorry I should have stated initially - it's a walk in shower.
  • Could you not just fix a tall door-stop by the toilet to stop the shower door bumping into the toilet?
