Having recently moved to and renovated our (50ish) year old house. In doing so there have been internal walls removed, new windows & doors and new heating system. All of the work is now finished, but I have now noticed some cracks in the internal walls; around the door frames and walls all on the left of my house along with a crack that runs along the brickwork on the front (approx 8 courses up). These aren’t yet more than a few mm’s, but are concerning me nonetheless. When part of the downstairs wall was removed the door frame of one of the rooms affected upstairs became difficult to open (like the frame had shifted).
I have alerted my builder to this, who is going to get a tool to put on the crack at the front of the house (to measure its movement) and has also advised that he will take the plaster off the area where one of the walls was removed, in order to see what’s going on.
My question is, what do I do? I feel like they just looking for ways to exonerate themselves from
any liability, whereas I am looking to establish what’s going on and why it’s happened.

I’m so worried about this and would thus appreciate any help/guidance you may be able to offer me.

What does your structural engineer have to say?You did instruct one before knocking down walls?Of course it might just be normal cracking that occurs as plaster dries out, but the doorframe upstairs......1

Did you have building control visits/Inspections or sign off? If it was a load-bearing wall you would need building regulations and that should ensure it was done correctly.A structural engineer or surveyor would usually be employed to determine if the wall is load bearing and then design a beam to cater for these loads and make sure it meets fire regs etc.0
