Late payment - bank refused dd

Hi I was two days late paying my aqua card. Have had a charge applied that they won’t remove, they said my direct debit was not approved. I queried with them and they said there was a late payment charge and it would be reported on my file as such. It was an honest mistake but a mistake all the same. Is there anything that I could do?

What do you mean it wasn’t approved?
Do you mean it wasn’t setup in time?
This is standard for most direct debits and you usually have to make a manual payment for the first statement.

If they won't show goodwill, then no.1

Most say make a manual payment until the DD appears on a statement saying it will be taken on X. That's my experience anyway!D3xt3r5L4b said:This is standard for most direct debits and you usually have to make a manual payment for the first statement.

The weird thing is I have had the account for years and don’t usually carry a balance on it . It gives a good rate for travel when we could travel! I must have cancelled it. Thanks for replies I will just wait and seeD3xt3r5L4b said:What do you mean it wasn’t approved?

If it had been more than 13 months without a balance, the DD would have lapsed.1

There is a once a year subscription on it that is beign a pain to transfer to a different card (no option on the website). Should be paid in full on the DD though as it is 13 months for that exact reason I bet!0

What was the wording on the statement exactly?0

As it stands the late payment marker is an accurate representation of what has happened so Aqua has no obligation to remove it - they could as a gesture of goodwill (but don't count on it!). As for why the DD didn't pull, I'd first check your statement to see if it said anything about taking a DD payment. If it doesn't then as above it's likely the DD has lapsed - check with your bank. If not, I'd get onto hassling your bank to sort it out under the DD guarantee.0

As I understand it, the company claiming the DD would not be informed that a DD has lapsed, the DD information is simply removed from the banks' systems so any attempt to claim it would be returned with something like "no mandate."PRAISETHESUN said:As it stands the late payment marker is an accurate representation of what has happened so Aqua has no obligation to remove it - they could as a gesture of goodwill (but don't count on it!). As such Aqua may have believed a DD was still in place and the statement will reflect this.
