SAS Airlines refund

I was due to go to Norway at the beginning of September 2020 after I booked my flights directly with SAS at the end of December last year. I received an email from SAS 17 August cancelling my flights due to COVID-19, with them offering a refund or a voucher. Due to the whole situation and god knows where we will be next year I opted for the refund, which I received a confirmation email for. The email outlined processing times were higher than usual due to the situation, which is understandable. I contacted their customer service as I realised the credit card I purchased with had expired, so wanted to give my updated details, however the lady I spoke to said she didn't need to take these and when I received my email to say my refund was ready I'd need to call my provider for the funds to be released.

We're now 10 weeks down the line and the status checker on the website says that it's still processing, but no idea of a timeframe. Having a look on Twitter I can see people still awaiting refunds from March, so I'm not hopeful that a refund is coming any time soon. I did pay with my credit card and the cost for two tickets return was just over £300 total. I wondered whether I'd possibly be better off raising a section 75 with my credit card company or waiting it out a bit longer - any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I am also awaiting a refund which I requested 2 months ago. I called them after I got another email trying to persuade me to take a voucher still, by making the voucher worth £30 more than the flight tickets. It seems to me there approach is to delay refunds and keep trying to persuade you to accept a voucher instead. They claim they can issue a voucher instantly but a refund takes months. Doubtful. When I spoke to them I was told that my refund would be at least another 2 months. When I pointed out that the law says they must refund within 7 days if the flight is cancelled I was told that "only applies at normal times" (absolute rubbish, the law hasn't changed). I am considering either a "letter before action" or credit card company as I think SAS will just keep delaying to try and persuade people to take a voucher instead. I don't want a voucher as I've no idea when I'll be allowed to travel to Norway again. According to the map from the Norwegian Government only people from some part of Finland can enter Norway without quarantine and the list gets more restrictive each time they update it.
  • Applied for a refund online with Scandinavian Airlines and after many emails that kept advising I had been sent vouchers , which i did not want was eventually advised i would be getting a refund but it would be delayed.  Have sent repeated emails and complained to the CAA but am now being ignored by Scandinavian Airlines and the CAA are back logged. When i look on SAS website to see where my refund is, it says vouchers issued !! but i have an email saying I would be getting a refund.  Flight was cancelled on 8th June and now I am wondering if going through the small claims court is the best way to go.  Tickets purchased by a friend via PayPal so not  sure about charge back.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
  • I too have been waiting for a refund from SAS since June. I'm considering a chargeback request as an option to get the money back.

Unfortunately you've waited for too long to allow a chargeback claim to proceed, as this has to be initiated within 120 days.  If you paid directly by credit card then Section 75 may be an option?
