I have owned one car for 7+ years and no intention of changing. I changed another after two days."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Approximately every 10 years. One of our cars was bought in 1996. My husband's car currently has 230K miles on the clock and is still going strong after 7 years.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

Shortest time 8 months, longest my current car 5 1/2 years so far.
I have so far sold every car by the time it's reached 82K, most sold when they have reached 75K or so. Current car is only on 56K as since moving house in 2017 I do a less miles.0 -
I buy at 2-3 years old and sell when it starts to need repairs, usually about 7-8 yrs old. I never have them serviced, just regular oil and filter changes and check fluids, pressures etc.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

I aim for 10 years, I didn't like the last one much so only kept it for 6 years.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

I tend to buy cars at 7 or 8 years old and keep them to about 15 years old, so I guess I keep them for about 8 years on average. But at present, while my daily driver is 10 years old (bought at age 7), I also have a back-up that is 17 (bought at five) and one on SORN that is 27 (bought at 6).1

Lots of you keeping cars for a long time then, but this is moneysavingexpert.com so I'm sure the regulars here are very savvy with money and would not replace a good car that still suits their needs. Buying cars is expensive no matter how you pay so the less we do it then the more money we'll have!1

Current car I've had for 8 years from new and it’s 112k. I still really like it and I think it drives well. So I plan to keep at least for another 2 years then reassess. In 2 years it needs a cambelt and water pump which is an expensive job, so if I do that then I’d feel compelled it keep it for a while longer!0

Looking back, it works out as every 4-5 years. I usually buy them at ~5 years old and then start to think about replacement when they're 10ish and then act on it sometime after the idea has got into my head. Vans, I keep longer. Bought my "van of a lifetime" recently and sadly is has so many faults that I'm now going to have to keep it forever!

I always buy brand new (cash) and try to get at least 10 years usage before sending them to the scrap heap.0
