I've just replaced the battery in my Apollo monitor - first time in 13 years so not bad!. But I don't rely on it.
It's useful for glancing at periodically in the conservatory to see when the tank's getting low, but from then on I use a garden cane I've marked off with gloss paint for precise measurement.
Just to add: whatever you do, don't get beguiled by a supplier offering you an annual contract so that "you never have to worry about running out".
You'll be paying top dollar for your oil.....
