I contacted HSBC and their solution was to buy a new phone when I said I wasn't buying a new phone to access my bank account she said she will send me a digital thingy and immediately deactivated my access using my tablet.
All this for an extra £44 odds
  • Yes, you can only have either the digital keypad thingy OR the app code generator - not both.

If you ever get a new phone and opt for the app then the digital keypad thingy will be deactivated.

Most banking apps will have a minimum operating system requirement as older operating systems are less secure. Sounds like a good thing to me.

I found an old account that my wife hasn't used for years so I paid some money in and set up a couple of standing orders then I used it to switch to another HSBC advanced account.
I just hope the digital thingy works for her account as well.
Not bad £475 for switching bank accounts since March plus £88 odds in a years time if I open a regular saver for her as well.

No it won't work, the digital keypad's are specific to the account holder. If you and your wife have separate accounts then you will both require your own digital keypad.

I will wait a couple of weeks after HSBC says my wife's account is up and running then go to an ATM to check if the £125 is there.
If it is I will withdraw it and never look at that account again.
    I don't think I'll bother with a regular saver.
