HSBC app not compatible with this device

I have my HSBC advance account set up on my computer and my Samsung tablet which I need to sign in on my computer, but I cannot download the HSBC app to my Nokia phone as Google Play store says it is not compatible with my phone, yet both my tablet and phone have Android 10 on them.
Is there any work around to install the app on my phone or is it a setting on my phone?

You can indeed work around the install limitation.
However a banking app is going to alwasy check the device it is running on so it would likely get you nowhere.

    Which Nokia phone model?

Mine, a 5.1 Plus implies that it will install - but the reviews suggest it's a pile of ... and I don't want to install it anyway (preferring the separate physical secure id key).

I'd probably recommend calling HSBC internet banking tech support for advice on this?

Your other option is to simply log in to the HSBC website via the browser (Chrome etc) on your phone just like any other website.

Obviously this isn't as convenient as using the app but at least you can access the account.

Do you have any other current accounts?

One workaround could be if another bank you are with has an app which supports HSBC's OpenBanking API. This would allow you to at least view transactions/balance for both banks in one app. For example I have an RBS account and can view another current account in their app, they also lists HSBC support.

Another option is to use an account management app such as Yolt, Money Dashboard or Emma.

I can't log onto my HSBC account using a browser unless I get a code from the app on my tablet.
At least I also have telephone banking where my voice is my password.
  • You can ask HSBC to send you a physical keypad thingy to generate the desktop banking logon codes.

I'm confident that all readers of this thread are glad that you didn't elaborate on this.

I did say the app would 99.999% unlikely not run on a not certified device anyway. But since you ask.

    Download the app apk export.
Export the app you want to.
Copy it over to the new device. (blue tooth, via plugged in on computer, via a sd cars, whatever).
Use some file manager (total commander is nice) and open it and install it (probably have to turn on allow random installs thing but you can do it one time these days).
    Job done.
I use said thing to install things not on the fire store on my fire tablet.
However as I said, begin a banking app it will likely be certified per device and still not run. At least if HSBC are compitent (they are not, best to leave but that is a different issue!).

So there you go. Give it a try and do report back so others may know the outcome.

If you bypass this restriction and something happens HSBC won't give you a penny back. There is likely security concerns around said device or they have not authorised the apps use on this model, either way HSBC will just say no. Even if perhaps the loss of money wasn't down to the app in the first place.
